DISTANCE EDUCATION

For the distance learning delivery, the University uses the MS Teams as its Learning Management System (LMS) since the LMS is built into the MS Teams. The University’s online learning system allows the University to focus on the nature and needs of the students and to customize learning to offer flexibility and convenience. The 24/7 accessibility of the asynchronous activities and resource materials online allow the students to do these asynchronous activities anytime.

1.1 Vision Statement

St. Paul University Philippines is an internationally recognized institution dedicated to the formation of competent leaders and responsible citizens of theircommunities, country, and the world.

2. MISSION, POLICY STATEMENT AND OBJECTIVES OF SPUP’S DISTANCE EDUCATION PROGRAM

Animated by the gospel and guided by the teachings of the Church, St Paul University Philippines Distance Education Program helps to uplift the quality oi life and to effect social transformation èƵ:

● Quality, Catholic, Paulinian formation, academic excellence, research and community service;
● Optimum access for a diverse student population and service in an atmosphere of compassionate caring which enables them to engage with and understand social and global issues; and
● Responsive and innovative management processes.

The SPUP Distance Education Program is designed to extend learning opportunities beyond the confines of the physical campus, offering students quality, accessible, and learning opportunities to enhance their educational journey.

Objectives:The Distance Education Program aims to:

1. Develop professionals who can think critically when carrying out their work and who are agents of change in accordance with the Paulinian core values;
2. Provide online courses that promote the integral development of the students;
3. Promote the use of technological tools to enhance students’ knowledge and skills; and
4. Promote an interactive system that promotes individuals’ accessibility to academic offerings.


3. ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES

3.1 Communication Systems

● The university email system will be solely utilized as means for the official communication in the Distance Education modality.
● Students should be registered in this system that will allow them the access to both University email system and the MSteams. Hence, official communications are done èƵ these portals.

3.2 Technical Support

● Technical support will be available to distance education students, faculty, and staff èƵ multiple channels, including email, phone, live chat, and an online help desk. The technical support includes the following:
● Technical support will cover issues related to accessing and using the LMS, institutional email, video conferencing tools, and other online learning technologies.
● Support to ensure compatibility of personal devices (e.g., laptops, tablets, smartphones) with institutional systems and software.

3.3 Tutoring/Advising Services

Tutorial and advising services are provided to the students to assist them for the course and program completion. Qualified tutors will be available to provide academic assistance in various subjects and disciplines. Academic advisors will provide guidance on program requirements, course selection, academic planning, and career goals. To avail of the services of the tutors or advisors:

● The students shall write a formal request for a tutor/advisor èƵ the Distance Education coordinator
● Dean and the Distance Education coordinator shall identify the tutor/advisor based on the expertise.
● Identified tutor/advisor and the students need to set scheduled appointments for tutoring/ advising sessions.
● Advisor/tutor will assist students in understanding degree requirements, planning their course schedules, and staying on track for graduation.

3.3.1 Student Counselling:All distance education students will have access to counseling services provided by qualified professionals. To avail of the services, the following procedure will be observed:

● The students can request for a schedule or counseling appointments èƵ an online appointment system or by contacting the counseling office directly.
● The head of the guidance and counselling office will identify the counsellor for the counselling session.
● The identified counsellor and the student will agree on the schedule for the counselling session.
● Right to privacy and confidentiality of information during the session will be strictly complied with.

3.4 Use of Library Resources
