A total of 131 Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), and community volunteers from the province of Apayao, particularly from the municipalities of Luna, Flora, and Pudtol, completed their Primary Health Care (PHC) Training. The graduation ceremonies were held on October 22, 2024, at the SPUP-Mo. Madeleine Hall. The activity aimed to celebrate the participants’ achievement in completing the PHC training and to recognize their dedication, commitment, and passion for serving their communities. It also sought to acknowledge their readiness to deliver quality primary health services in a timely, responsive, and inclusive manner. The event further presented the graduates, who were welcomed and accepted by their respective municipalities and communities as new community health champions.
The event was graced by Sr. Merceditas Ang (University President), Ms. Pia Winter (Project Officer for BMZ Projects-German Doctors, Bonn), and Dr. Jay-Jay C. Roaquin (Consultant and Focal for Special Programs), who served as the Guest Speaker. It was also attended by the SPC Sisters, representatives from the Committee of German Doctors for Developing Countries, partner local government units (LGUs), municipal health offices (MHOs), and barangay local government units (BLGUs). The training was facilitated by the Community Development Center staff, SPUP faculty members, and students.
The project, a collaborative effort between the SPUP-Community Development Center (CDC) and German Doctors for Developing Countries (e.V.), is designed to improve the health and quality of life of vulnerable populations in SPUP’s partner communities. The participants completed the intensive training and passed the final examination administered by the training team.
