Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam—The Philippine Association of Research Managers (PHILARM) successfully held its annual international congress from March 18 to 20, 2025, bringing together research, development, and extension (RDE) managers to exchange best practices and present studies on effective RDE program and project management. The event aimed to enhance participants’ skills, foster innovation, and strengthen research management in the Philippines and across the ASEAN region.
One research presentation was delivered by Dr. Marjorie L. Bambalan (Faculty, College of Business and Accountancy), who showcased her research titled “Micro and Small Enterprises Capabilities and Performance.” Her study provided valuable insights into the factors influencing small business success, highlighting strategies for enhancing their capabilities and market performance. Her presentation underscored the growing importance of research in shaping business strategies and economic policies and in driving knowledge-sharing and collaboration in the field of research management.
This year’s congress was a collaborative effort, co-organized by PHILARM alongside Saigon Business School (SBS), the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), Marinduque State University (MarSU), and the Philippine School of Business Administration (PSBA). The program featured a diverse lineup of paper and poster presentations covering key areas such as R&D management, agriculture, environmental science, education, social sciences, technology, and business. Additionally, attendees participated in plenary sessions, professional education programs, cultural and learning tours, and networking opportunities to foster international partnerships.
The event demonstrated a strong commitment among local and international institutions, research organizations, and private sector stakeholders to work together in advancing research management and fostering innovation for a globally competitive economy.
