As part of their course in Advanced Nursing Practice, SPUP-Graduate School facilitated the academic and cultural immersion of PhD Nursing students in Thailand from November 18-22, 2024. The participants of the said international engagement were Ms. Brooklyn Isagon, Mr. Cliff Richard Mabasa, Mr. Elmer Santos, Ms. Gilleen Megan Bunga, Ms. Karen Raidis Marcelino, Ms. Kate Mhor Jan Carasi, Ms. Marianne Hazel Abad, Mr. Roel M. Beljamin, and Ms. Vanessa Langcay. During this period, the graduate school students gained first-hand experience in various aspects of Thailand’s healthcare system, including elderly care, primary healthcare, and traditional and alternative medicine. They also explored innovative approaches to health and well-being, enriching their understanding and insights into these critical healthcare areas.
The students witnessed Thailand’s expanded facilities for the elderly from inpatient care to home care services. They had the chance to explore the Kluaynamthai Hospital as the leading institution dedicated to geriatric care. This state-of-the-art facility caters to patients referred directly from other countries, including Saudi Arabia, highlighting Thailand’s growing reputation as a hub for advanced healthcare services. From hospital exposure, the participants also observed healthcare practices in the rural areas of Bang Pla, Thailand, where the Ministry of Public Health concentrates their tireless efforts to motivate healthcare professionals in serving communities with renewed passion and purpose.
In the University of Dhonburi Rajabhat (Bangkok, Thailand), the PhD Nursing students learned about groundbreaking strategies and initiatives that could pave the way for effective prevention and management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Moreover, they were introduced to the TM Flow system, a benchmark for the integration of advanced technology into traditional and alternative medicine. The said system offers a comprehensive health assessment tool to monitor and compare improvements in health status following traditional and alternative treatments. This innovative approach underscores the potential of blending modern technology with age-old healing practices.
