On February 8, 2025, a learning session on Gender-Based Violence and Child Protection brought together over 100 participants, including BLGU officials, BHW/BNS members, the Committee on Women and Children, and DRF Project beneficiaries from SPUP’s partner communities in Tuguegarao City, Solana, and Enrile. Held at Mo. Madeleine Hall, the event also welcomed college students from various departments in the University, fostering a collaborative space for learning and advocacy.
Led by distinguished speakers from the School of Arts, Sciences, and Teacher Education (SASTE), the session featured insightful discussions from Dr. Editha Pagulayan on the protection of vulnerable sectors and pathways for safeguarding rights, Ms. Jami Addatu on gender-based violence, and Mr. Wilfredo Martin on RA 7877 and the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313). The event provided a vital platform for dialogue on the challenges of gender-based violence and the urgency of child protection. Through knowledge-sharing and collective reflection, the session underscored the importance of awareness, advocacy, and accountability in building a society founded on justice and safety. This gathering served as a catalyst for lasting change, uniting communities in the fight against violence and the commitment to upholding human dignity.
This initiative is part of SPUP-CARES’ advocacy on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and the Start Ready-Start Network Disaster Risk Financing Project, implemented by the DRF Cagayan Consortium. The consortium is led by Humanity & Inclusion and includes Green Meadow, PhilRads, Relief International, and St. Paul University Philippines – Community Development Center, working together to enhance disaster preparedness and community resilience.
